Our History

Founded in 2004, by current Directors Rob Garbutt and Patrick Doyle, UK Grid started out as a regional business ISP (Internet Service Provider); as such it was essential for UK Grid to source first class data centres from which to deliver their core internet and network services. As the company continued to grow from strength to strength it became increasingly challenging to find a data centre provider who could meet their demands for growth in both a business and technical sense.

The company took the decision to build & manage their own data centre facilities to move into the colocation marketplace. Having suffered the mixed experiences of life as a colocation client, UK Grid invested time, money and endless energy into a portfolio of services designed with the client foremost in the mind and that would deliver solutions fit for business as well as being technically sound.

The company has grown to be the largest independent carrier neutral provider of colocation solutions in the North of England focusing on expert colocation solutions accompanied by the highest levels of client care in the industry and a responsible approach to the environment.

The company now operates over 50,000sq ft of carrier neutral colocation space in Manchester with financial performance recently achieving 9th place in the Deliotte Technology Fast 50 - recognising the financial performance of the top 50 companies in the UK Technology industry (in 2010).

UK Grid were the first provider in Manchester to provide 100% Carbon Neutral colocation facilities.
